This policy explains how the Law Office of Brian D. Shapiro, LLC (“the Firm,” “we,” “us”) handles information from people who visit this website, contact us, or become our clients. If you have questions, call 702-386-8600 or email mail@brianshapirolaw.com.
Information we collect
- Information you give us. When you call, email, or schedule a consultation, you may give us your name, phone number, email address, and information about your student loans, bankruptcy case, income, and finances.
- Documents from clients. Once you hire us, you send documents through our secure client portal, provided by Clio. Those documents are part of your confidential client file.
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Wix) may record basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit, and may use essential cookies to deliver the site. This website has no contact forms and does not ask you to type in personal information.
How we use information
- To respond to you and schedule consultations
- To evaluate whether we can help you and, if you hire us, to represent you
- To bill for our services and accept payments
- To meet our legal and professional obligations, including bankruptcy court rules
- To keep this website working and secure
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Attorney-client confidentiality
Information you share with us for the purpose of getting legal advice is kept confidential as required by the Nevada Rules of Professional Conduct and, where it applies, protected by the attorney-client privilege. Contacting us through this website, by email, or by phone does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship. Please do not send confidential documents until you have signed a fee agreement with us.
Who we share information with
- Service providers that help us run the practice and this website, such as Clio (practice management, client portal, and payments) and Wix (website hosting). They may use your information only to provide services to us.
- Courts and parties to your case. Papers filed in bankruptcy court become part of the public record, except for information the court rules require to be redacted, such as Social Security numbers. In a student loan case, information you provide in your sworn attestation is shared with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education.
- When the law requires it, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order, or as permitted by our professional rules.
Other websites
This site links to other websites, including our client portal (Clio), Facebook, studentaid.gov, and our bankruptcy practice site. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle information.
Fonts
This site uses fonts served by Google Fonts. When your browser loads the fonts, Google receives your IP address. Google's privacy policy applies to that information.
How we protect information
We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold, including an encrypted client portal for documents. No method of sending or storing information over the internet is completely secure. Please black out all but the last four digits of Social Security and account numbers before you upload documents, and avoid sending sensitive information by regular email.
How long we keep information
We keep client files for at least five years after a matter ends, or longer if the law or our professional rules require it. After that, files may be securely destroyed.
Nevada residents
We do not sell covered information as defined in Nevada law (NRS Chapter 603A). If you have questions about this, contact us at mail@brianshapirolaw.com.
Children
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them through this site.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it was last changed.
